Minho ditemukan pada 2006 SM Casting System. Kemudian tahun 2008, dia bergabung dengan SHINee dan melakukan debutnya pada 25 Mei 2008 di SBS Inkigayo. Dua bulan sebelum debutnya, Minho menjadi model untuk Ha Sang Baek Seoul Collection F / W 08-09 Maret 2008. Minho muncul dalam video musik Girls' Generation 'Gee' versi Korea dan Jepang.

Minho memulai debut aktingnya pada tanggal 20 November 2010 melalui drama spesial KBS2 berjudul 'Pianist' dengan aktris Han Ji-hye. Pada 7 Desember 2011 diumumkan bahwa Minho mengambil peran dalam drama sitkom SBS Salamander Guru dan The Shadows. Minho berperan sebagai Minhyuk, seorang hacker jenius.

Pada 26 April 2012, Minho dikonfirmasi untuk menjadi peran utama, bersama Sulli f(x) dan Lee Hyun-woo, untuk drama Korea "To The Beautiful You", versi Korea dari drama Jepang "Hana Kimi". Minho berperan sebagai Kang Tae Joon, seorang atlet lompat tinggi peraih medali emas yang menyerah melompat tinggi setelah terluka. Tanggal 29 Juli 2013, Minho kembali ke layar kaca melalui drama MBC Medical Top Team.

Selain aktif sebagai seorang aktor, Minho juga turut ambil bagian dalam menulis lirik lagu SHINee, terutama dalam menulis bagian rap. Pada album pertama mereka, The SHINee World, ia menulis rap untuk lagu "Replay", "Love Like Oxygen", "Love Way ", "One for Me", "Graze", dan "Best Place". Pada tahun 2009, untuk mini album kedua mereka, Julliete, ia juga menulis bagian rap untuk lagu "Talk to You", "Juliette", "Hit Me", dan "Romeo + Juliette".
